Petra Summit

Petra Summit, for high school students and young adults, focuses on training up the next generation of Kingdom workers who do not follow the status quo, but who live radically devoted lives to Christ and the Great Commission.

Peace in the Midst of Great Uncertainty

Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.” –John 13:7

April 15, 2020

How many times in our lives we have gone through situations that were frustrating, painful, confusing, discouraging, depressing, or even downright hopeless?

We just celebrated Holy Week. For us, this week did not require the pain, trauma, or emotional price tag as it did the disciples. Hindsight is always 20/20. We want to walk by faith, but it is so much easier to walk by faith well, when we don’t have to walk by faith.

The closer the hour of Christ’s crucifixion, the more bewildered the disciples became. They did not know what Jesus was doing. Every moment was a new reality. Questions were swirling around their heads; What is going to happen to our Rabbi? What is going to happen to us? Why don’t His teachings make sense? Does our Rabbi know what He is doing? Their thoughts began to betray them and emotions began to run high. Their reason, emotion, understanding, and personal commitment failed.

When uncertainty looms fear can gain an ugly control.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding.” Prov. 3:5 The disciples would have known this proverb, yet it had no affect in the moment of crises. Fear became their response when uncertainty closed in. This is the hour of true testing, this is the hour that shows whether our faith is real or a figment of our imagination. Whenever we panic or fall into despair it is because our hearts are not fully trusting in the Father. A virus does not disturb our peace but rather our lack of trust in the Father robs us of all that is good.

Panic was their MO, modus operandi, because absolute trust in the Father was not.

Ask yourself if uncertainty, misinformation, and fear have been characteristic of your life these past few weeks, or has an absolute trust in the Father carried you forward?

“And now I am about to go the way of all the earth, and you know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the Lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” Joshua 23:14

Shaken Into Spiritual Success

March 25, 2020

Are you nervous or anxious when God shakes the world around you? Do you realize God is moving you to a heart full of gratitude and worship? Do you realize God doesn’t give a spirit of fear but works mightily to produce in you, a spirit full of gratitude and worship?

Hebrews 12: 26-29 “And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven.” This expression, “Yet once more,” denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things, so that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. “Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.”

Christ’ voice, His Word, is the powerhouse, the epicenter of the shockwave that shakes this entire world around us. The kingdoms of this earth are shaken to their core in a matter of seconds by an invisible enemy at a cellular level.

This time of a world health crises is not intended to make us fear, and tremble by fleshly impulse. It is to simply show us how the temporal will always give way to the eternal. This is to fix our eyes on Christ as the author and builder of our eternal and unshakable kingdom. These times of crises are to build up our joy, gratitude, and our worship. It is not to tear down those virtues but to tear down that which makes us unstable and idolatrous.

When mankind cowers at the reality of a rapid pandemic, the believer is to tremble in reverence and awe of his awesome and all powerful God. God is the consuming fire we are to tremble before, instead of a particular cellular component.

Jesus said in John 16:33, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Jesus Himself is our peace and He has shown the emptiness and temporality of earth’s kingdoms.

God lovingly refocuses our eyes and hearts on what can never be shaken, what can never be taken, what can never be removed.

“…to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.” I Peter. 1:4

Praise God when He shakes the world around us, because He is loving us and showing us that nothing but Christ can bring us true security. We want hearts full of gratitude and worship but we all stumble, get sidetracked, complain, falter, and lose faith. It is God’s mercy, grace, and love that violently shakes the world around us to that we run back to Him and place our hope anew on the rock that is higher than us..the rock that can never be moved. This is what the love of God does.

“He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rest my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God.” Psalm 62: 6-7

Are you truly grateful for God’s unshakable kingdom? Is your heart full of Christ directed worship?

In Christ,

Pastor Jared.

Be Anxious for Nothing

March 21, 2020

Dear Loved Ones,

It is times like these that make passages like Philippians 4:6-7 jump off the pages of Scripture. We know these scriptures. We have read them many times, even memorizing them, but it is so very easy to lose perspective when things begin to tumble out of control. The truth is, we are never in control and secondly, God uses times of crises to remind us that we are but dust and that He alone is the sovereign Lord over all of the universe. All cells, molecules, atoms, viruses, angels, demons, sicknesses, plagues bow before His powerful and awesome Lordship as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

We do not deserve peace, health, food, family, friends, doctors, health, medicine, let alone eternal salvation, yet our God is so gracious and forgiving, He supplies all our needs.

Let us take a few moments and allow God’s Word to put things into perspective.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7 [highlights mine]

Did you notice that? It is the peace of God that will guard our hearts and minds from all the crises pervading us. Our eternal inheritance is not in this life but the next. Did you also notice that in order to obtain this supernatural peace of God we must first pray, and two, we must pray with a heart of gratitude.

No gratitude = No peace

Right now, how many things are you truly grateful for? What should you give thanks and praise to God for at this very moment? The more we pray with this self-disciplined attitude, the greater our joy and peace will be.

A joyful life is gratitude based, not circumstantial.

Please take the time to mediate on this above picture and know that our all powerful, almighty God reigns upon heaven and earth and knows you by name. Blessed be His name!

You are Loved,

Pastor Jared
